Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh requested an investigation into the deadly ambush on the prime suspect in the Bargari blasphemy case at the New Nabha jail on Thursday.
The episode happened around 5.15 pm, when 49-year-old Mahinderpal Bittu, an occupant of Faridkot who was captured a year ago, was assaulted by two different detainees who have been distinguished as Mohinder Singh and Gursewak Singh—both dealing with homicide indictments. He was hurried to Civil Hospital at Nabha, where he was announced brought dead, an official representative said.
