Assembly Speaker AAP’s MS Dhir Joins BJP (Video)

New Delhi: In a major setback for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), former MLA MS Dhir, who was the Speaker in the last Delhi Assembly, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reports said on Friday.

Dhir was MLA from Jungpura seat.

Recently, Dhir had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s way of functioning. “I am not unhappy at the fact that I was denied a ticket, as I had never asked for it. But in the media, AAP leaders have been trying to create an impression that I was not given a ticket on the basis of my performance. I feel extremely hurt. AAP leaders tried to dent my image. As far as BJP is concerned, they are doing a wonderful job under the guidance of Modi’s leadership. My well-wishers want me to join the BJP,” he had said.

The development comes in the backdrop of speculations that some former MLAs of the AAP may find their names missing from the final list of candidates for the Delhi Assembly Elections scheduled for next year.

On November 13, AAP had declared its first list of 22 candidates, including 12 former MLAs. While it was not been announced formally, five MLAs were told shortly before the list was released that they will not be getting tickets this time.

Of the 70 candidates, only 35 or so candidates from the 2013 Assembly Elections, including former MLAs, are expected to be repeated. The party’s second list of candidates will be announced after November 24.
