The IndiaTimes has reported that landmines will be laid by the Indian army at border areas in Punjab.

The announcement comes after nearly 5lakh people were evacuated following rising tensions with Pakistan. The farmers had to abandon their crops which were ready for harvesting.

Over 5 lakh people from Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Pathankot and Fazilka districts were told they had to leave the area immediately. The Punjab border is 553km and has instilled a war like feeling causing worry amongst the public.

Punjab farmers in the border expressed their frustration by saying, “All I fear is my crop, it has to be harvested in next few days.”
