The 28th Sikh Day Parade had a record attendance of an estimated 150,000 Sikhs. The 3rd largest Nagar Kirtan event outside India draws Sikhs from the Tri-State area to Manhattan.
The Parade was started in 1986 due to the need of the hour after the 1984 attack on Sri Harmandir Sahib. The Parade was a way for the public to know about issues facing the Sikhs and to celebrate Sikh identity in the United States.
The parade is by far the largest event of a joint cooperation between all Sikh Gurdwaras in the region.
