AKAL TAKHT: Release Arrested Youth for Vandalizing Statues

Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib issued a statement on the arrest of Sikh youth who vandalized the Bhangra statues on Heritage Street outside Sri Darbar Sahib. The Jathedar has called for the release of the youth and asked the SGPC to help in their release.

The Jathedar further stated that the statues have been installed for a long time and Sikhs protested late but they will still support the removal of the Statues.

He went onto say they it would be appropriate if the statues were replaced with Sikh warriors or martyrs such as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur or Baba Gurbaksh Singh.

Jathedar stated further that there is a drastic difference between Punjabi culture and Sikh culture and that both shouldn’t be mixed.

A total of 8 Sikhs were charged on damaging the statues and were booked under sections 307 and section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
