A war of words has started between the Indian Railways Ministry and Captain Amrinder Singh over a fine of 27 lakh rupees to cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur. The cricket player was given a job at the railways in lieu of a 5 year service bond that was signed with them earlier. However, Captain Amrinder Singh has now offered a job as DSP in Punjab police. The CM of Punjab Captain Amrinder Singh has written to the railways to reliever her so that she can join the Punjab Police.
“I have already written to the Railways twice and hope that she would be relieved soon so that she could join Punjab Police as a DSP at the earliest,” Amarinder told media persons on the sidelines of a function here.
Harmanpreet became a star after the Indian cricket team reached the finals of the ICC Women’s World Cup in England last year.
According to reports, Harmanpreet wanted to join the Punjab police but CM at the time Parkash Singh Badal did not approve her request. The father of Harmanpreet has stated that the family could no afford to give a fine of 27 lakh rupees.
The Punjab government had last year given a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh to Harmanpreet for her performance in the World Cup.
