Sikhs Rescue Girl’s Indian Hockey Team in Australia

The girls Indian hockey team was sent to Australia to compete in tournaments. However, they were not provided with any transportation to and from their matches. The girls were seen crying and unhappy that the Indian High Commission failed to meet their basic needs of transportation. When local Sikhs saw the girls crying they asked what had occurred.

They explained them the situation and the Sikhs got their taxis and brought them to the games. The girls had already missed two games in the two prior days. The Sikhs Hockey Association from Adelaide has now provided the girls with food from local Gurdwaras and also provided them with transportation needs.

Allegations are being made against the officials of the Hockey Team of coming to Australia to vacation and not being too interested in the matches.

A statement issued by the Adelaide Sikhs Hockey:

“Hockey Matter in Adelaide:

It was sad and horrible to see condition of Indian girls hockey team under 16 going through all lot of stress prior to their matches. No food provided on time, No transport provided. Girls lost their 2 matches without play! Coach was helpless. Two Team managers travelling with this team knows nothing about arrangements. Indian delegate/ officials were busy in touring Adelaide like tourists and not picking up their phones or responding emails! Adelaide pacific school games organisers said they were very clear about everything from start, but there was lack of response and communication from Indian officials. School sports federation of India has received Rs.2.5 lakh for each player from government but still they didn’t deliver any good service. Their intentions seem to be vacationing Australia and have little interest in the actual games as Team managers were discussing to visit Melbourne while this is underway!

Adelaide Sikhs Hockey Club members were present with girls hockey team since afternoon till they reach their motel safely tonight and had a meal. Offered full support to Coach and team on transportation and meal for their rest of the matches. They are in touch with Pacific games and Hockey SA. Wider community members in Adelaide has also offered full support and local Gurdwaras are willing to deliver langar to all touring teams if needed. However, meal allowances and travel passes are all prearranged which should be utilised, instead of that money goes into wrong hands.

Regards
Adelaide Sikhs Hockey.”
