Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Committee Says No to SGPC “Nanakshahi” Calendar

The Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee rejected the newly amended “Nanakshahi” Calendar released by the Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh for the year 2015-2016.

The president of Committee stated, “The Sikh community living in Pakistan has unanimously accepted the original Nanakshahi Calendar released in 2003 from Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and since then it has been celebrating all Gurpurabs and observing other historic holy days in accordance with the Nanakshahi calendar 2003.”

He went onto say that the PSGPC has rejected amendments that were made by the SGPC in 2010 which followed the original calendar since 2003.

The head of the PSGPC stated that the issue is not of the SGPC but actually the entire Sikh Quam.

Further more, he stated Sikhs intellectuals around the world should be gather to make a decision and simply calling the Bikrami Calendar a Nanakshahi Calendar is “unethical.”

The PSGPC issued a statement saying all Gurpurabs will be celebrated according to the 2003 dates.
