Conflict of Succession to the Bhaini Sahib’s Gaddi killed Mata Chand Kaur
Chand Kaur (85) wife of Jagjit Singh, Chief of Bhaini Sahib Namdhari Cult died at Apollo Hospital at Ludhiana after being shot at by two unidentified youths at Bhaini Sahib.
As per information, Chand Kaur had come to the Partap Singh Academy to participate in a religious ceremony being conducted to mark beginning of the new academic session as well as opening of a new building at about 9.30 am. She participated in the ceremony and blessed the students and teachers before boarding an open club cart at about 10 am to return to her residence within the premises.
When her cart went outside the gate suddenly a Sikh youth came towards her and fired on her with a revolver and fled away with another youth waiting outside on a motorcycle.
After hearing the gun shots, some followers rushed towards the club cart and rushed Mata Chand Kaur to Apollo Hospital in a serious condition. She was declared dead by the doctors there after a few hours. Some followers alleged that the bodyguard provided for her security was not present on the spot and the assailants managed to escape without any fear. It was also alleged that the attackers escaped towards Machhiwara side after committing the crime.
Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Mata Chand Kaur, wife of former Namdhari head late Jagjit Singh, who was shot dead by unidentified assailants today morning.
Badal said that he has given clear instructions to DGP Punjab police to nab the culprits in no time.
In his condolence message, Badal said that Mata Chand Kaur lived an exemplary life and dedicated her whole life preaching teachings of Gurbani and serving whole heartedly for the Namdharis. Describing her murder as one of the most cowardly act, Mr. Badal that the culprits responsible for this heinous crime would not be spared.
Badal prayed to the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and courage to the family, nearer and dearer to bear this irreparable loss.
