7 SGPC Members Resign, More to Follow

Amritsar : Punjab was shut following a bandh called by Sant Samaj to protest against the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib ji.The police have registered an attempt to murder case against 15 persons, including religious personalities Giani Kewal Singh, former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Ranjit Singh Dhadarianwale, Panth Preet Singh, Avtar Singh Sadhawala, Sarabjit Singh Dunda, Satnam Singh Chander and Daler Singh.

Seven SGPC members — Jaspal Kaur from Rampura Phul, Baba Avtar Singh Ghariala (Tarn Taran), Gurpal Singh Gora (Gidderbaha), Jaswant Singh Purain, Kaka Sukhjit Singh, Sukh Harpreet Singh Rode and Jagtar Singh Rode — have resigned in protest against the killing of two persons in the police firing.

Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, the former jathedar of Takht Shri Damdama Sahib, Talwandi Sabo Thursday lost cool and publicly manhandled SAD Amritsar district Bathinda president Parminder Singh Ballianwali during Punjab Bandh.The incident happened at ‘Nehran Wala Pul’ where Sikh Sangat had gathered for a dharna on the day of Punjab Bandh.Jathedar Nandgarh who was passing by was asked to address the gathering but the Jathedar got infuriated over some point and allegedly manhandled the SAD (A) president.
