A Sikh named Amrik Singh Bal was attacked why two white males while he was waiting at the corner to catch his ride for work at around 6:30am. The police are treating the attack on the Sikh man as a hate crime.
Amrik Singh tried to ran away from the attackers but they rammed their vehicle into him causing him to be knocked to the ground. The two man came out of their vehicles and started to beat Amrik Singh. They yelled expletives at him while beating the 68 year old man causing injuries to the face and upper buddy.
Greg Noll of the Fresno police told the Fresno Bee that a hate crime investigation was launched that left Mr. Bal with a broken collar bone and injuries to the face.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security are assisting the Fresno police according to the Fresno Bee.
Ike Iqbal S. Grewal, a member of the Sikh Council of Central California, told the Bee that “Sikhs have been mistaken for terrorists and radicals and continue to suffer after 9/11.”
Bal became a victim of mistaken identity due to his appearance. He was targeted due to anti-Muslim crimes.
