The Sikhs Who Built New Delhi, Modern India’s Capital
5 major Sikh contractors built the major buildings of the Capital City of India New Delhi.
The top five builders were Sobha Singh, Basakha Singh, Ranjit Singh, Mohan Singh and Dharam Singh Sethi.
The British honored the Sikhs by embedding their names on stone slabs on major buildings around the capitals especially the South and North blocks.
The North block was named after Sobha singh and his engineers and architects.
Before the British left India, knighthoods were conferred on Teja Singh Malik and Sobha Sing
Post independence anti Sikh sentiment prevented the parties from even naming a road after one of these Sikhs.
