DHURI/LEHRAGAGA (SANGRUR): All decks have finally been cleared for rail connectivity to five Sikh Takhts (temporal seats). The railways will soon conduct a feasibility study to link the Akal Takht ( Amritsar), Keshgarh Sahib (Anandpur Sahib), Damdama Sahib (Talwandi Sabo), Takht Sri Patna Sahib (Patna) and Sri Hazur Sahib (Nanded, Maharashtra).
Union railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge said on Sunday that the railways would take up the issue with the railway board chairman and different zones to make it a reality. Though four Takhts are already connected by rail, the Takht Damdama Sahib in Bathinda is yet to be linked with a rail line. The minister was speaking at a function here to kick-start a host of projects, including electrification of the Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal section.
Kharge said the railways is planning to link the entire country – from Kanya Kumari to Kashmir – by rail lines. He said soon the Udhampur-Katra rail link will be made operational and with this the railways will have covered the entire country as railway services have already been started in the Kashmir valley and only two sections, Udhampur-Katra and Katra-Banihal, are to be commissioned.
The Northern Railways has also started work on the electrification of the 123-km Ludhiana-Dhuri-Jakhal section that will cost Rs 126 crore and will take two years to complete.
