NEW DELHI: A day after two police constables, including a woman, were hit by a Maruti Swift, it was found to be a case of attempt to murder and not an accident as police had said earlier. A case has been registered under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) as well as 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman) at Mayur Vihar police station.

In her statement to police on Wednesday, the woman constable said while she was deployed at the Ramlila ground, two youths approached her and asked for her mobile number. She refused and reported the incident to a male colleague, Manoj, who then told them off. Soon after the program ended, she asked Manoj to drop her off at the police station.

They left on a bike, with the men following them in a Maruti Swift, claimed the woman. When they stopped at an eatery, the car rammed them from behind, police said. While the woman suffered a severe hip bone fracture, Manoj sustained heavy injuries to his head. Teams have been formed to nab the duo. The CCTV footages of the program have also been recovered. Sources said one of the accused, Ravi, is also suspected to have a criminal antecedent. The car was registered in the name of Ravi’s mother.
