A total of 16 migrant workers were killed and five injured–who were sleeping on the railway tracks– after coming under a goods train. The incident took place near Maharashtra’s Aurangabad district on Friday at 6.30 in the morning.
These migrants had started off their journey from Jalna to Bhusawal on foot. They kept walking along with the railway tracks and slept near them after being tired. After this, they met with the accident and lost their lives.
According to the police, the migrants, who were headed to Madhya Pradesh, likely assumed that trains were not running due to the coronavirus lockdown and exhausted from walking a long distance, slept off on the tracks. They were run over by the passing train at 5.15 am today at the district 360 km from Mumbai.
