Mumbai :Thirteen persons, including four minors, were today arrested by Palghar Police in the neighbouring Thane district for their alleged involvement in the brutal killing of a 21-year-old Sikh businessman on October 12.
According to police, a night patrolling team recovered the body of the youth from a nullah near Natraj Bar, Devisha Road in Palghar late night on October 12. The deceased was identified as Daljit Singh Kuldeep Singh Deewan alias Mickey, a chemical trader from Mumbai, who had come to Palghar for business and was staying in a local lodge since the last ten days.
As per a complaint registered by Mickey’s friend Jorwara Singh, they had gone for dinner at a local restaurant. When they stepped out of the restaurant, a group of 12 to 14 youngsters allegedly picked up a quarrel with Mickey. The heated exchange of words took a violent turn when the mob started raining punches and blows on Mickey, who collapsed on spot. The accused then dumped his body in a nearby nullah and fled in a pick-up jeep. Mickey was rushed to the government hospital where he was declared dead before admission.
Mickey was engaged to a Surat-based girl and his marriage was scheduled to be held in November this year.
‘Based on the footage captured by the close circuit TV camera installed outside a jewellery shop, we were able to identify the registration number of the jeep,’ informed investigating officer assistant police inspector Valmiki Patil.
Police zeroed in on the owner of the jeep, who revealed that a group of local youngsters had taken his jeep to participate in a ‘garba’ event at a nearby venue.
Based on the information provided by the jeep owner, the police today arrested all the 13 accused from Satpatti village.
